Mini grant applications being accepted

MONMOUTH/INDEPENDENCE -- If you're a resident or belong to an organization interested in assisting the community through programs or projects, you may be eligible for grants to help with your mission.

The 24-Hour Relay Challenge committee is accepting applications for mini-grants worth up to $500 through Feb. 11.

The grants come from proceeds of the 24-Hour Relay Challenge and the Independence Hop & Heritage Festival.

Judges will review submissions, which must include efforts to address drug and alcohol use among youths, reduce negative peer pressure and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Suggestions or ideas that meet the above criteria include:

* Sports or athletic groups, activities or events.

* Activities or events for at-risk groups.

* Education-based presentations or activities.

Preference for awards is given to projects that benefit the most people.

Grant application forms can be requested from and returned to the following email address: barch@minetfiber.com.

Deadline to apply is Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. Grants will be awarded by March 13.
