DHS Reunion set

DALLAS -- The Dallas High School Class of 1990 reunion events are scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15, 16, and 17.

Friday, Sept. 15 -- A tour of the high school will take place at 5:30 p.m. followed by a home football game at 7 p.m. A class "mixer" will begin at North Dallas Bar and Grill about 9 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 16 -- Miniature golf from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Puttskee's Mini-Golf at the east side of the "S" curve in Monmouth. Families are welcome to the 18 holes of golf. Cost is $3 per person.

Dinner will be at Spirit Mountain Casino from 6 to 11 p.m. Cost of dinner is $22 per person, (prepaid registration is required by Sept. 12). Dinner choices are eight ounces of prime rib served with roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables or primavera penne: sauteed julienne vegetables. A sauce of tomato, garlic, and white wine over penne pasta topped with green onions.

Sunday, Sept. 17 -- A family picnic is planned for noon at the "old side" of the Dallas City Park, by the new covered area. Please bring your own food and utensils. Drinks will be provided.

Memory books can be ordered with class information, addresses and comments. The cost is $7 and books will be printed and sent out to you after the reunion.

Library, clubs focusof woman's club meeting

INDEPENDENCE -- The GFWC Independence Woman's Club will hold the Wednesday, Sept. 6 meeting at their clubhouse at 340 S. Third St. Refreshments will be served at 7 p.m. and the program will start at 7:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.

Guest speakers include Vona Pease who is past president of the Valley District of Women's Clubs as well as a former president of the Oregon Federation of Women's Clubs. She will speak on Women's Clubs and also on the national program "Libraries 2000."

Elaine Ferguson, chairperson of the Friends of the Independence Public Library, will speak on co-sponsoring a book club and on volunteering for the library.

After the program a short meeting will be held. The Woman's Club is a service organization whose objective is to promote greater community and educational interest and to promote fellowship among its members. Membership is open to people in the community who support these interests.

Antique, hobby andcraft show at church

MONMOUTH -- Christ's Church is hosting an "Antique, Hobby and Craft Show and Sale" fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Christ's Church, 412 W. Clay St.

The event will include an antique auction where antique dealers will bring their wares for both an oral and silent auction. There will be youth-oriented events such as a cake walk with monster cookies, face painting, fishing, and bean bag toss booths. The Christ's Church Women's booth will sell grapevine wreaths, hop wreaths, swags and produce.

Entertainment will include indoor and outdoor games, musicians, and pony rides.

Food booths will include homemade chili corn on the cob, apple pies, and beverages.

Proceeds from the event will be used towards the church's mission budget, youth scholarships to camp, some new projects and Christmas baskets.

MONMOUTH -- The Monmouth Public Library Book Discussion Group will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14 in the public meeting room of the library.

This will be the organizational meeting for the 2000-2001 sessions. If you have a book you would like the group to read this year, please bring it to share. The schedule and discussion leaders for the year will be decided.

All are welcome to attend. This discussion group meets on the second Thursday evening of each month from September through June.

DALLAS -- The City of Dallas is offering a number of aquatics programs in the coming weeks. All classes will be held at the Dallas Municipal Pool located at 385 SW Levens St.

Lifeguard Training

-- Successful participants, ages 15 and up, may qualify to apply for jobs at Dallas Aquatic Center and other Red Cross swimming pools.

Training will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (no afternoon class on Thursday), Monday through Friday, on Aug. 21 to Aug. 25. A second session will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5 to 16.

Cost is $50 for residents and $65 for nonresidents.

Water Safety Instructor Training

-- For ages 17 and up, must have lifeguard certification. Classes will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Sept. 5 to 15.

Cost is $100 for residents and $125 for nonresidents.

Aqua aerobicsat M/I YMCA

INDEPENDENCE -- The Monmouth/Independence Family YMCA is offering adult "Aqua Aerobics" from 5 to 6 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through Sept. 1.

The water exercise class is open to men and women ages 18 and older. An instructor will lead the class and a lifeguard is on duty at all times.

The YMCA pool and facility is located at 495 I St.

Preregistration is required.
