PORTLAND, 11:12 a.m. -- A 6.2 magnitude earthquake shook the Pacific Northwest about 11 a.m. Wednesday, rattling Portland and Seattle for about 15 seconds.

Hwy. 22 battle heads to Capitol

With U.S. Rep. Darlene Hooley coming to Polk County to talk about highway safety Feb. 9, County Commissioner Mike Propes wanted to give her some numbers. He got the freshest statistics available about the number of deaths and injuries along highways 18 and 22. That was Monday. By Friday, the figures were out of date. Roberta Alley, 68, of Sheridan was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 22 two days earlier.
