WOU offers fitness and aquatics programs

There's something for just about everyone this summer at Western Oregon.



MONMOUTH -- A full slate of aquatic exercise classes and an aerobics offering highlight Western Oregon's summer fitness lineup.

Activities begin on June 25 and end on Thursday, Aug. 2. All facilities will be closed for the Independence Day holiday on July 4 and 5.

Offered in the Old Physical Education Building gym will be a Sunrise Step Aerobics class at 6:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

The Old P.E. Building's Wolverton Pool will be home to four aquatics classes:

Early Bird Aqua Exercise: 8 a.m.-9 a.m. Monday through Thursday; Deep Water Fitness/Aqua Jogger: 9 a.m.-10 a.m. Monday through Thursday; Easy Going Arthritis Fitness, Injury Recovery and Maintenance: 10 a.m.-10:45 a.m Monday through Thursday; and Stress Busters Aqua Exercise: 5 p.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Costs for both the aerobic and aquatics classes are $69 each.

Red Cross swimming lessons will be offered at Wolverton Pool this spring, with classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 26 to July 26.

A special class for parents and youngsters ages 6 months to 4 years old will be held from 3 p.m.-3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.-6:30 p.m.

Lessons at several skills levels will be offered, starting with water exploration, primary skills and stroke development from 3:30 p.m.-4 p.m. Primary skills and stroke readiness will be covered in the 4 p.m.-4:30 p.m. class, and the 6 p.m.-6:45 p.m. class will cover stroke improvement. The cost for swimming lessons is $34 per session.

Wolverton Pool will also be available for lap swim and recreational times throughout the term. Lap swims are scheduled for: 6 a.m.-8 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 7 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 4 p.m.-6 p.m.Monday and Wednesday; and 5 p.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday. Recreational hours have been set aside from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Children and senior citizens pay $1 per visit, adults pay $2 and a family of five can swim for only $4 per visit. WOU students swim free.

Punch cards are available for children and seniors (five swims for $5 or 10 swims for $10) and adults (five swims for $10 and 10 swims for $20). Term passes are available for unlimited swims at $30 for children and seniors, $40 for adults and $50 for a family pass with a maximum of five swimmers.

A punch card or term pass to is required to swim at Wolverton. Cash cannot be accepted at the time of swim. Cards and passes are available through WOU's Division of Extended Programs in Terry House from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
