POLK COUNTY -- A man hoping to strike a deal on a car sale ended up on the receiving end of an axe attack at Bridgeport and Liberty roads outside Falls City.
At about 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, Polk County Sheriff's Deputy Jeff Williams and Sgt. Nathan Goldberg responded to a report of a fight that involved a man wielding an axe had damaged a vehicle.
Apparently the victim had pulled into a driveway and was approached by Kinsey Niles, 22, who was carrying an axe. Three other people accompanied the victim. Niles asked why they were on his property and was told that they were attempting to make contact with Niles' mother, who had expressed an interest in buying a car from them.
Niles reportedly told them they were not friends of his mother and then struck the windshield of the car with his axe. When the victims tried to drive away, Niles struck the car several more times with the axe and demanded that they leave.
Niles was arrested and booked into Polk County Jail for criminal mischief 1, a Class C felony, two counts of menacing and two counts of reckless of endangerment.
