Dallas and Central are holding football camps from Aug. 12-16.

Dallas Football Camp will be held on Aug. 12-16 at the high school.

Players entering grades 9-12 will workout from 3 p.m.-5 p.m, and players entering grades from 5-8 will practice from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Proper fundamentals and the basics of offense and defense will be stressed by coaches, which will include high school and middle school staff. The fee is $40 per player with a $5 late fee after Aug. 9. The fee includes five days of instruction, hat, T-shirt and prizes. Application forms require proof of insurance and parent's/guardian's signature and can be picked up at the high school, 1250 SE Holman, or the Kids, Inc. office, 187 SW Court St. Applications also will be available from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. at the practice field on Aug. 26. The Eighth Annual YMCA Panther Soccer Camp will be held at Talmadge Middle School from Aug. 12-16

. Boys and girls in grades 5-8 will meet from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. and grades 9-12 will meet from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. The registration fee is $40 and includes a t-shirt and a daily snack. For additional information or to register, call the YMCA at 503-838-4042.

The Salem Volleyball Officials Association is looking for people interested in officiating junior high school and high school volleyball this fall

Registration for CYS football will be held on Aug. 13-16 from 11 a.m.-8:30 p.m. in the CHS gym

. The program is for fifth- and sixth-graders. The team will play in the Willamette Valley Football League and will take on teams from Cascade, Silverton, Dallas and Salem. The cost is $75 per player. There will be no late registration. The team will practice three days per week. Practice starts on Aug. 19, and the season begins Sept. 14. Dallas High School is hosting a pair of volleyball camps this summer

. Girls entering grades nine-12 will meet from 9 a.m.-noon on Aug. 12-16. Girls entering grades six-eight will meet from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. on Aug. 12-15. The cost for either camp is $40 per participant. Registration forms can be picked up and dropped off at the high school, 1250 SE Holman St. Tryouts for the 2002 season will be on Aug. 19-20 for players entering grades 9-12. There will be two sessions daily from 9 a.m.-11.am. and from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Practices for all teams (freshman, junior varsity and varsity) will start on Aug. 21 at the same times. The Monmouth-Independence Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will be played on Aug. 25 at Cross Creek Golf Course, 13935 Highway 22 in Dallas

. The entry fee of $45 includes green fees, prizes and a barbecue dinner catered by North Dallas Bar & Grill. Prizes include a 2002 Toyota Corolla, a set of Ping irons, a titanium driver and a $250 gift certificate to the Cross Creek pro shop. Sponsorships also are available for $100, $150, $200 and $250. Western Oregon University 2002-2003 golf passes now are available

. The passes cost $30 each and can save golfers hundreds of dollars. The passes are good for various special deals -- including free rounds, two-for-ones, free range balls, etc. -- at 26 golf courses and three golf outfitters throughout Oregon. Passes are valid from June 1, 2002, through May 1, 2003. Proceeds benefit the Western Oregon men's basketball program. For more information, call 503-838-8256.

Volunteers are needed to help with trail maintenance in the Calloway Creek Trail and the Old-Growth Trail

. The program is conducted by the Oregon State University Research Forests Office. Work party dates are on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-noon from Oct. 19 through Nov. 23. McDonald Forest also is seeking additions for the Volunteer Trail Patrol. Volunteers will help educate the public about proper use of the forest. Applicants must be at least 13 years of age.
