Three-on-three tournament debuts

A total of 24 teams take part in the first-year event.

DALLAS -- Dallas Basketball Association (formerly Future Champs) held its first Summerfest Three-on-Three Basketball Tournament July 27.

Despite little advance notice and virtually no publicity, the event proved to be a success, drawing a total of 24 teams. There were visiting squads from Central, McMinnville, Clackamas, Silverton and West Salem.

The event was held on temporary courts in the parking lot of the Academy Building in Dallas.

Next year, a skills competition and a dunk competition could be added, making it a two-day event.

"It was excellent," organizer Tod Brostrom said. "We had great compliments from everybody. We got more teams than we thought we would, and that was just from getting on the phone and calling everybody I knew. We've already got a few plans for next year."
