The Central Vision Reds topped the final standings for Central Youth Sports major league baseball with a 14-1 mark

. They were followed by the Pacific Brothers Moving A's (7-7) and the Windermere Giants (3-11). All-Stars selected from the league were Mario Banba, Casey Conner, Patrick Deptula, Michael Hamilton, Travis Heide, Grant Knowles, Wade Knowles, J.J. Oliveros, John Pratt, Derek Rardin, Brayden Traglia and Aaron Waterman.

The Salem Volleyball Officials Association is looking for people interested in officiating junior high school and high school volleyball this fall

The Fourth Annual Trinity Lutheran Church Golf Tournament will be played on Sept. 8 at Dallas Golf Club, 11875 Orrs Corner Rd. in Dallas

The Salem Soccer Referees Association is looking for people interested in officiating high school games this fall

Dallas Golf Club club manager Mike Tallon made a hole-in-one at the difficult No. 1 hole at his home course on Aug. 17

. The hole measured 187 yards, and Tallon used a 4-iron for his fifth ace in 20 years of golf. It was his third ace at Dallas Golf Club and the third overall at the No. 1 hole since the course opened about 12 years ago. Witnesses were John Chase, Cliff Smith and Tom Carter.

The Monmouth-Independence Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will be played on Aug. 25 at Cross Creek Golf Course, 13935 Highway 22 in Dallas

. The entry fee of $45 includes green fees, prizes and a barbecue dinner catered by North Dallas Bar & Grill. Prizes include a 2002 Toyota Corolla, a set of Ping irons, a titanium driver and a $250 gift certificate to the Cross Creek pro shop. Sponsorships also are available for $100, $150, $200 and $250. ♦ Tryouts for Kids, Inc. of Dallas fall softball and baseball will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24. Softball tryouts will be held at the Lyle Elementary fields starting at 10 a.m. Baseball tryouts will be held at the LaCreole Majors field starting at 9 a.m. In both softball and baseball, players must be registered at the Kids, Inc. office prior to the tryouts. Volunteers are needed to help with trail maintenance in the Calloway Creek Trail and the Old-Growth Trail

. The program is conducted by the Oregon State University Research Forests Office. Work party dates are on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-noon from through Nov. 23. McDonald Forest also is seeking additions for the Volunteer Trail Patrol. Volunteers will help educate the public about proper use of the forest. Applicants must be at least 13 years of age. Registration for Kids, Inc. of Dallas fall programs is underway.

Flag football is for grades 3-4 and the cost is $35.00. The season starts in September. Volleyball is for grades 5-6 and the cost is $20. The season begins in September and runs through October. Tackle football is for grades 5-7. Grades 5-6 will play through the Salem Boys & Girls Club and is limited to two teams. The seventh grade team will represent LaCreole Middle School and play a Tri-County League schedule. Practices start in August. The cost is $70. Cross country is for grades 6-8. The Dallas volleyball team is putting together a program for the upcoming 2002 season

Kids, Inc. of Dallas is looking for youth soccer coaches

. Clinics are offered to learn the fundamentals of coaching and soccer. A lack of coaches could force Kids, Inc. to limit the number of children able to participate in the league.
