POLK COUNTY - A familiar name is back in the Itemizer Observer masthead after more than 12 years' absence.
Dave Weston, Itemizer Observer publisher from late 1978 to mid-1989, is returning to that position Jan. 2.
He and Nancy Adams will share management responsibilities at the newspaper.
Adams is assuming new titles of general manager and marketing director while Weston assumes the titles of editor and publisher.
No other staff changes are planned at this time. Changes in the newspaper and its website (www.itemizerobserver.com) are expected in the weeks ahead.
"The Itemizer Observer has a history from the mid-19th century to the 21st century. We want to make the I-O as important a part of life in the county in this century as it was in the previous ones," Weston said.
Weston and his wife, Sherry, have made their home in Polk County since moving to Monmouth in 1978 to publish the Sun-Enterprise newspaper. Later that year he became publisher of the Itemizer Observer before moving to Dallas in 1979.
Their children, Cody and Shawna, are both graduates of Dallas High School.
