Area couple lost in the snow

INDEPENDENCE -- Corina and Charlie Reynolds of Polk County are missing after they went to play in the snow late Dec. 29.

At presstime, Polk County Sheriff's deputies continue to search for the missing couple.

Corina, 20, and Charles, 22, both left Monmouth at 3 p.m. Dec. 29 to play in the snow west of Falls City -- possibly in the Black Rock area on the 1300 Line Road toward the former Valsetz townsite.

Neither one of them was dressed for overnight weather conditions. However, they had some blankets, food and beverages.

They were last seen in an early '80s model Ford Ranger 4X4 pick up.

Family members called the Polk County Sheriff's Office around 8 a.m. Dec. 29. Deputies began a ground search. However, because of the bad weather, they called in members of the Oregon National Guard Unit 1042 from Salem.

Searchers reported snow on the road was at least two feet deep. An air search failed to locate the couple by nightfall.

Night temperatures in the area fall into the teens. Sheriff Bob Wolfe said the search will continue, although searchers are not certain the couple even went to this area.

"Family members felt that due to a suggestion that they could see snow in this area, that they may have gone there."

Anyone with any information on the couple's whereabouts can call the sheriff's office at 503-623-9251 or call 911.
