Contract talks open slowly

Alternative school negotiations take cautious start

DALLAS -- Tuesday morning saw a slow but positive start to negotiations between Morrison Charter School board and staff.

Ken Guffey, lead negotiator for the staff, indicated a willingness to work from the Board's proposed agreement.

Agreement on the working year was reached before the meeting adjourned.

Future talks between the Morrison Education Association and the Board will be Mondays at 6:30 a.m. until final agreement is reached.

Negotiations began with a 6:30 a.m. meeting Jan. 15 at Morrison School on Main Street.

Earlier in the initial meeting it was agreed that the bargaining would be done in open sessions. It was further agreed that if the talks require mediation both sides would split the costs evenly. Also it was agreed that once agreement has been reached on a point, the agreement remains, no further discussion of that point.

The team of Guffey, Kim Herschler and Jamie Richardson represent Morrison Education Association while Board Chair Don Currie and Directors Lisa Koloen and Chuck Lerwick represent the Morrison Board. Executive Director Don Wildfang is also present.
