Safeway is offering an easy and painless way for people to help Dallas High School athletics through the current budget crunch

. The Dallas Booster Club is selling gift cards that can be used to make purchases at any Safeway in Oregon. Each gift card is $50 and is good for $50 worth of products at Safeway. The Dallas athletic department then will receive a five percent return on all purchases made with the gift card. There is no additional cost to the consumer. Central fans can help support the school's athletic department through the Panther Scrip program

. Scrip is substitute money that can be used to make purchases at dozens of participating retailers, such as Applebee's, Best Buy, Pep Boys and Shell Gas. A specified portion of the purchase amount -- ranging from 2% to 25%, depending on the merchant -- then will be donated back to the Central athletic department. There is no additional charge to the consumer, but scrip must be purchased before shopping. Registration is underway for 2004-2005 Kids, Inc. basketball

. Kids, Inc. has leagues for boys and girls in grades 1-6. Register in the Kids, Inc. office, 187 SW Court St. in Dallas, Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. or on Fridays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Register at Strader Fields on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. or at LaCreole from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. on Dec. 2. Girls in grades 3-6 can register at LaCreole at 9 a.m. on Dec. 4. Boys in grades 3-6 can register at LaCreole at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 4. The cost is $35 for grades 1-2, $45 for grades 3-6 recreational teams and $100 for grades 5-6 competitive teams. The registration deadline for grades 1-2 is Jan. 7, 2005. The registration deadline for grades 3-6 is Dec. 4. All players in grades 5-6 must attend a skills evaluation clinic at LaCreole. Girls clinics will be held Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. and Dec. 4 at 9:30 a.m. Boys clinics will be held Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. and Dec. 4 at 12:30 p.m.

John Strader has announced his resignation as coordinator of Dallas, Kids Inc. baseball

. A meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 9 at the Kids, Inc. office, 187 SW Court St., to discuss the situation and begin planning for the 2005 season. Anyone interested in the coordinator position or any other (league coordinator, field maintenance, uniform control, concessions, equipment control, etc.) should call the office as soon as possible at 503-623-6419.

A basketball clinic focusing on offensive skills will be held at Dallas High School on Nov. 6

. Ages 8-12 will meet from 9 a.m.-noon and ages 13-18 will meet from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. The clinic is for both boys and girls. The cost is $60 per player or $50 for students in the Dallas school district. Instructors, including former college basketball player Henry Barrera, will be provided by NBC Camps. Participants need to bring a basketball and basketball shoes. Applications are being accepted for the Sixth Annual Turkey Shoot golf tournament on Nov. 13 at Cross Creek Golf Course

. The two-person scrambles begins with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The entry fee is $45 per player and includes green fee, snacks and prizes. The field is limited to the first 72 paid entries. Players may register as teams or be placed on a team. A portion of the proceeds will help provide Thanksgiving dinners for needy families in the area. The Dallas Kids, Inc. softball program is recruiting individuals for several positions

. Volunteer coordinators are needed for 10-under, 12-under and 14-under recreational leagues. A volunteer coach is needed for the 12-under Magic competitive team. Central has formed the 2004 Touchdown Club to help fund the school's football program

. Club members will pledge to donate up to $1 for each touchdown the football team scores in its nine regular season games. There is a fixed maximum of three touchdowns per game, so participants will pay at most $3 per game and $27 for the season. A Masters swimming team at the Dallas Aquatic Center is accepting new members

. The annual fee is $25 with a $6 discount for Aquatic Center members. The team is open to swimmers of all ability levels, 19-and-older. Participants are not required to swim competitively, but that option is available. Practices are set from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, but team members also can set their own practice times. Dallas Kids, Inc. is looking for a coordinator for individuals leagues for the 2005 baseball season
