Jack and Joy Thompson of Monmouth are celebrating their 60th anniversary with a private family dinner event on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Murphy's Grill in Dallas, hosted by their family.
E. Jack Thompson and Joy D. Knofler were married on Oct. 22, 1945 in Stevenson, Wash.
Jack was a log scaler and retired in 1983. Joy is a full-time homemaker.
The couple lived in Dallas until 1984 and has lived in Polk County for 40 years.
The couple were two-year volunteers for the Meals on Wheels program and enjoy being involved with the Good Sam's Club.
Their family includes Darrell and Jackie Elliott of Independence, Don and Sharon Thompson and Joe and Dianne Dobiash, all of Dallas, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Douglas "Jiggs" and Thelma Freeman of Polk County are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception on Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Oak Grove Grange Hall, hosted by the couple's children.
Friends and family are invited to attend the event from 2 to 5 p.m. No gifts, please.
Douglas Freeman and Thelma Barker were married on Oct. 28, 1945 at the Willamina Christian Church.
Louise (Barker) Blackwell was the bridesmaid and Oral Fitts was best man. They both attended the 50th anniversary celebration and plan to attend this upcoming 60th event.
Jiggs and Thelma lived on the family farm in the Oak Grove area until his retirement from farming in 1985.
They purchased a home on the Salem-Dallas Highway where they continue to reside. Jiggs and Thelma have lived in Polk County for more than 60 years.
Jiggs was the grounds keeper for Western Oregon University in Monmouth five years and retired in 1991. Thelma is a full-time homemaker.
The couple has been active square dancers for the past 35 years with the Independence Wagon Wheelers and honorary members of the McMinnville Braids and Braves.
Their family includes Jency Rosasco and Richard Mishler of Willamina; the late Dwight Freeman; Lynn Freeman and Janice Cox of Grand Ronde; Valerie Freeman of Salem and the late Harold Freeman; Dennis and Willetta "Willie" Craig of Salem; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
