Blue Dolphins open swimming season

The team has a new head coach in Aimee Boudreau.

DALLAS -- A new coach, assistant coach, helpers, many new and enthusiastic swimmers and willing and involved parents have all made for a strong start to the Dallas Blue Dolphins new swim season.

Head coach Aimee Boudreau and assistant coach Doug Burch, filled with energy and swimming expertise, and the team have been busy training for the past six weeks.

The hard work paid off when the Blue Dolphins had their first swim meet of the new season Oct. 15-16 at Linfield College in McMinnville.

Hayden Lesko, 8-years old, took a first place in the boys 8 & under 25 yard backstroke with a time of 19.58. In the boys 8 & under 25 yard freestyle, with a time of 17.54, Lesko pulled off another first place. He placed 7th in the boys 10 & under 50 yard freestyle and 13th in the boys 100 yard backstroke. This was particularly impressive as this backstroke was open to all youth, including high school.

Twelve year old Matt McCammon placed 6th in the boys 11-12 50 yard backstroke, 9th in the boys 11-12 50 yard freestyle and 14th in the boys 100 yard freestyle.

Caleb Munro, 13, placed 6th in the boys 13-14 100 yard backstroke, followed in 7th place by Corey Crook and David Lusby, who took 11th. Munro, Crook and Lusby had 7th, 9th and 11th places, respectively, in the boys 13-14 100 yard freestyle.

For the boys open events, Dallas had Brian Bull finishing 5th in 100 yard backstroke, 6th in the 100 yard freestyle and 8th in the 400 yard IM.

Veteran girls team member Melody Hillebrand took 5th in the girls 11-12 50 yard freestyle with a time of 30.32. Hillebrand also placed 6th in the girls 12 & under 200 yard freestyle, 10th in the girls 12 & under 200 yard IM, 11th in the girls 11-12 50 yard breaststroke and 12th in the girls 100 yard butterfly.

In the same age bracket were Emily Serry, Jerusha Dressel and Anna Finke. Serry had a 7th, 9th and 12th when swimming in the 50 yard freestyle, 200 yard IM and the 50 yard back. Dressel followed with an 8th in the 50 yard freestyle and in the 50 yard breaststroke. She had two 11th places, a 13th and swam great in the girls 11-12 50 yard butterfly placing 6th with a time of 41.97. Finke took a 10th ribbon in the girls 11-12 50 yard freestyle.

Heading up the younger swimmers was another Dressel. Seven year old Beth Dressel swam 9th in the 8 & under 25 yard Back and 10th in the 25 yard Free.

Jenna Munro, 10, also earned ribbons by placing 10th in the 50 yard free and 14th in the 50 yard backstroke.

The girls 12 & under relay team of Hillebrand, Dressel, Melissa Biery and Shasta Elder claimed the silver medal.
