Christmas services at Pedee Evangelical Church will be varied this year. The 10 a.m. Sunday School Christmas program on Dec. 10 will be "A Christmas Pageant" by local talent.
The 10 a.m. service Dec. 17 will feature "In One a'Chord Ministries," Ray and Opal Lutke sharing an Advent concert.
The Lutkes have been involved in music teaching and administration at several Christian colleges and universities for more than 30 years.
Their scared concerts include vocal and instrumental music and drama.
A Candlelight Christmas Eve Service will be held at 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 24.
Pastor Lonnie and Pam Burbank, flew from Portland to Arizona to spend Thanksgiving with her parents, Alvin and Elsie Jones, at Salome.
Alvin's brother and wife, Calvin and Mary Jones, who spend winters in Arizona, also spent Thanksgiving Day with them.
While with her parents they attended a jam session at an RV park.
On Nov. 24, they went to visit their special Dayton friends who now live in Arizona. They were with them until taken to the airport on Nov. 26.
Aaron and Nonie Burbank had his children home for Thanksgiving. Sons Leslie and Larry came from Portland, and daughter and family Anne, Bob, Kevin and Bryan Parker came from Corvallis.
Lay leader Aaron Burbank held the Nov. 26 services at Pedee Evangelical Memorial Church in the absence of Pastor Lonnie.
At praise and prayer time it was noted that Wes Burbank was in the hospital with a breathing problem.
Aaron asked prayer for his sister, Laura Dyer of Monmouth, who had a very painful fall on Thanksgiving at the home of her granddaughter in Portland.
A guest speaker was Bob Barnhart of the Wildwood area. He is a member of the Gideons and shared scripture passages as he explained their work distributing Bibles. Joost VanderHave of Independence assisted Bob.
Bob suggested that ways to help the Gideons are to use the materials they provide and share them with others; and to support their work with offerings. He had a display of Bibles and other materials on a table in the foyer.
My sister, Nila Shellenbarger of Monmouth, and I were with her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary Shellenbarger, and family at their Buena Vista home for a family Thanksgiving.
Those enjoying the day were Chris, Julie, Paige and Emma Austin of Sherwood; Steve and Joni Anderson of Hermiston; Geri Niccoli of Buena Vista; Doni and Dennis Wolfe of Salem; Richard, Lisa, Conner and Tyler Wolfe of Corvallis; and Lonnie Shellenbarger and daughter Lindsay.
