6/7 Connections: Anniversaries


Cary and Jane Elwood are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary with a "Night of Memories" program at 7 p.m. Friday, June 23 at Valley Life Center's activity room, 1795 SE Miller Ave.

The couple's children and grandchildren will host the event, welcoming family, friends, co-workers and the public.

Alvin Cary Elwood and Jane Anne Vickers were married on June 1, 1956 at the First Assembly of God Church in Hermiston.

The Rev. C.O. Ross officiated the ceremony.

The matron of honor was Viola Siroshton and the best man was Harry Thomas.

Having previously lived in La Grande, Hermiston and Woodburn, the couple has resided in Dallas for 38 years.

Cary worked in the field of education for 30 years. He was director of elementary education administration for the Dallas School District and retired in 1987.

Jane, an elementary school teacher, retired in 1991.

The couple's involvements and activities include Valley Life Center, MAPS, RV volunteers, Gideons International, CERTS, hunting, fishing, RVing, traveling, cruising and spending time with friends and family. Jane also enjoys quilting, crafts and painting.

Their family includes Vickie English of Orange, Calif; Von and Sherry Elwood of Murrieta, Calif., and four grandchildren.

To continue the celebration, the couple has a family cruise planned at a later date to inland Alaska.



Dean and Ilene Lewis of Monmouth are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house reception hosted by their children from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 11 at Ash Creek Bible Church, 1483 16th St. in Monmouth.

William Dean Lewis and Ilene Mae Cowden were married on June 11, 1966 in St. Helens, attended by family and friends.

The couple has resided in PolkCounty for 40 years.

Dean is a U.S. Postal Mail Carrier in Monmouth. Ilene, a 36 year bus driver for Central School District, retired in 2003.

The couple attends Ash Creek Bible Church and enjoys walking, hiking and taking vacations with their kids and grandchildren. Dean helps out with Central Youth Sports (CYS) softball where son, Seth, is a coach.

Their family includes Jennifer Schoorl of Gresham, Trevor and Robin Lewis of Keizer, Shawn and Michelle Lewis of Independence, Seth and Morgan of Independence and seven grandchildren.
