Honor goes to officer for DUII vigilence

MONMOUTH -- Officer Doni Hamilton of the Monmouth Police Department was honored at the 10th annual Multi-Disciplinary Impaired Driving Training Conference April 29.

Hamilton was selected among a pool of officers from agencies across the state for the 2005 Municipal Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) Enforcement Officer of the Year Award.

Last year, Hamilton arrested 49 subjects for DUII. During the award ceremony, Sgt. Tim Weaver of Newberg Police Department (the MDT Chairman) stated he had learned that patrons of bars in Monmouth and Independence often asked the bartenders if Officer Hamilton was on duty.

When they found out he was, they took cabs or found alternate transportation rather than driving while intoxicated.

Hamilton has hired as a Monmouth reserve officer in 2001 and brought on full-time in 2003.

"Our department is very proud of Officer Hamilton and the honor that was bestowed on him through this well-deserved award," said Chief Darrell Tallan.
