MONMOUTH -- A "snow bus" will depart from Western Oregon University to Oregon mountain locations on seven weekends beginning in January, and the public is encouraged to take advantage of the trips along with WOU students and faculty.
The activity will appeal to skiers and snowboarders, but also sledders, snowshoers, photographers and anyone who just wants to play in the snow, said Melissa Ineck of Western's Campus Recreation department.
The bus trips are sponsored by the Campus Recreation, Student Leadership/Activities and University Residence offices. Cost of each round trip is $15 for campus residents, $17 for other WOU students, and $20 for faculty or staff and community members.
Registration deadline for each trip is the Wednesday before departure (earlier is encouraged) in the Campus Recreation office in the Werner Center. Non-students age 15 and under must be accompanied on the bus by a parent or legal guardian.
The dates and destinations are:
* Jan. 13 -- Hoodoo Ski area (Santiam Pass).
* Jan. 20 -- Timberline (Mount Hood).
* Jan. 26 -- Mount Bachelor (Bend).
* Feb. 3 -- Ski Bowl (Mount Hood).
