DALLAS -- Dallas' boys cross country team swept Lebanon, South Albany and Crescent Valley Oct. 18 in Dallas City Park in the team's lone home meet of the season.
"What a day for Dallas cross country," DHS coach Monique Lankheet said. "It has been many years since the boys cross country team had this kind of depth and leadership. They set out to win Wednesday, and they accomplished their goal. It was a total team effort. We are getting very excited about competing in districts at Bryant Park in Albany."
Dallas and Crescent Valley tied 28-28, but the Dragons won the tiebreaker thanks to Gauje Rush. He was Dallas' fifth-place finisher and finished ahead of Crescent Valley's No. 5 runner.
Dallas beat South Albany 27-29 and Lebanon 18-33.
The Dragons' Joe Crawford finished third overall with a time of 17:27, and Nate Anderson ran a 17:55 and finished sixth.
Dallas' other four runners all set personal-best times. Brian Woitte finished 10th with a clocking of 18:08 and was followed by Ty Tietjen (11th, 18:14), Rush (15th, 18:36) and Steven Austin (19:40).
Chelsea Wiens of Dallas led for most of the race but was out-kicked by Amelia Yeager of Crescent Valley at the finish. Wiens took second with a time of 19:45.
Dakota Magden finished 10th for Dallas in 22:09.
Dallas' Maria Thackeray finished sixth in the girls junior varsity race with a time of 25:23. Other finishers for the Lady Dragons were Emily Buchan (15th, 27:34), Angela Green (18th, 28:39) and Kerry Green (28:39).
Matt Pride of Dallas ran a 20:47 in the boys junior varsity race, finishing in eighth place. He was followed by James Holton (ninth, 20:48), Matt Osborn (21st, 22:47), Ben Hamilton (22nd, 22:48) and James Clothier (25th, 23:46).
