DALLAS -- Chelsea Wiens of Dallas finished first in her heat Sept. 20 in the Mid-Willamette Conference cross country preview at Bryant Park.
Wiens, a state qualifier last season, finished the 5K circuit in 19:57.7. Courtney Humphries of Crescent Valley was second in 20:05.9.
"Chelsea ran very well," Dallas coach Monique Lankheet said. "She looked very strong and confident."
The rest of Dallas' girls ran in a different heat. Dakota Magden ran eighth for the Lady Dragons in 24:24. Other Dallas finishers were Emily Buchan (10th, 24:37), Maria Thackeray (11th, 24:51) and Amanda Bruesch (13th, 24:55).
Dallas' Kerry Green took 35th in the 5K junior varsity race with a time of 29:59. Angela Green was 37th in 30:17.
Joe Crawford ran third for the Dallas boys with a 17:23.0 clocking. He was followed by Nate Anderson (13th, 18:21), Robert Senter (18th, 18:34), Brian Woitte (21st, 18:52) and Ty Tietjen (24th, 19:01).
Woitte's time was about a minute faster than the team's previous meet.
"Overall, everyone did a great job," Lankheet said. "Twelve of our 15 runners improved from the last meet. The most gratifying thing was how the team came together. We had several athletes running in packs, all supporting one another, all pushing each other. It was most impressive."
