Pedee News: Nola Womer

Nila Shellenbarger had a visit from Pedee friends Ted and Alberta Jones on June 14 to honor her June 19 birthday.

They brought her a delicious fresh strawberry pie.

She was honored on her 86th birthday with dinner at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary Shellenbarger, in Buena Vista.

Others for the birthday dinner and evening were her granddaughter, Julie Austin, and great-granddaughters, Paige Austin and Emma Austin, and me.

She also received many cards and letters.


Paul Ronco fell on June 14. He had surgery the June 16 to repair his broken hip. On June 23, Paul was taken to the recovery center in Dallas.

His grandson, Evan Jarvis of Zig Zag, took his grandmother, Betty Ronco, to visit her husband, Paul, on June 24.


Vacation Bible School was held June 18 to 22 at the Pedee Church with a cowboy theme.

The closing program was held the morning of June 24 with parents, relatives and friends attending.

School director Stacy Wiedenmann welcomed all.

When the children were arranged at the front of the church, in the stage setting of "Avalanche Ranch," prepared by Rick and Michelle Bennett, the children sang songs with motions from recordings for five lessons - "God is Real," "God is with Us," "God is Strong," "God is Awesome" and "God is in Charge."

Vacation Bible School participants included students Levi Bault, Dawntae Bault, Nash Bennett, Marissa Bowman, Rachael Burbank, Natasha Cameron, Katelyn Cooley, Hannah DePrey, Jeff Jones, Ryan Jones, Taylor Lowther, Jacob Lowther, Grace Lowther, Hallie Sickendick, Seth Smithson, Shelby Wiedenmann, Palmer Wiedenmann, Joshua Willden, Amanda and Nickole Williams.

Helpers were Bella Arevalo, Josh Bowman, Haden Burbank, T.J. Cooley, Alexis Lara, Anthony Landey, Troy Owen and McKenzie Smithson.

Teachers and volunteer workers were Pam Burbank, Nonie Burbank, Debbie Baldwin, Juandeane Skidmore, Lonnie Burbank, Arlene Kovash, Stacy Wiedenmann, Carolyn Hall, Derek Burbank, Michelle Bennett and Erika Sickendick.

Stacy gave a short report of past daily vacation Bible schools and this year's activities. She thanked the teachers, helpers and workers.


Coming Events:

Saturday, July 14 - A church campout will be at the parsonage of the church park, just south of Ritner Creek Covered Bridge on Kings Valley Highway. Campers will arrive after 3 p.m., have a potluck dinner and campfire songs at 7 p.m.

Sunday, July 15 - Church in the park will begin at 10 a.m. Attendees will bring chairs for worship in the trees; a potluck dinner will follow.

Community Garage Sale - Saturday, July 21, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pedee Church Park. Set up will be at 8 a.m. Table space is free (bring your own table), as are hot dogs at noon.
