INDEPENDENCE -- Kids who want to know how it feels to be in the cockpit of a soaring airplane can find out this weekend.
The local chapter of the Experimental Airplanes Association (EAA) will host its annual "Young Eagles" flight day on Saturday, June 9, at Independence State Airport.
The free flights are for youngsters age 7 through 17. Flights will last 20 to 30 minutes each, with the first takeoff set for 9 a.m.
"We'll go all day if we have enough kids interested," said Bob Schwarzler of EEA Chapter 292. He said about 10 local pilots will do the flying.
Parents must accompany their sons or daughters to the event to sign a permission slip. The registration area is at 4803 Airport Road - a blue-and-gray hangar near the airport's base area.
