POLK COUNTY -- On Wednesday, Nov. 14 at about 1 a.m. the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to a single-vehicle rollover car crash on Highway 18 near Fort Hill.

Sheriff's Deputy David Black had rolled his patrol car while on duty in the Grand Ronde area. Black's injuries were minor, but he was transported to McMinnville Hospital as a precaution.

Investigators said Black was heading east on Highway 18 when he rolled the car and then hit a power pole. When the vehicle hit the pole, lines came down and started a small brush fire that was quickly extinguished.

Black's car came to rest in the front yard of a private residence. He was able to climb out and radio dispatch for assistance.

At press time, investigators had not reported what caused the deputy to lose control of the car.
