The Cross Creek Junior Golf Classic will be played Monday, Aug. 11 at Cross Creek Golf Course

Carmen McClintock of Dallas captured two gold medals and four silvers recently in the State Games of Oregon at Mt. Hood Community College

. McClintock, competing in the women's 50-54 age division, won the 200 meters in 37.37. She also took first in the discus (mark unavailable) and second in the 100 (20.05), 400 (1:37.00), shot put (19-4) and javelin (53-4). She is qualified to attend the 2009 U.S. State Games in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Tryouts have been set for the Central Panthers 12-under and 14-under ASA softball teams for 2008 fall ball and the 2009 spring/summer season

. Tryouts will be at the high school varsity field. The date for the under-14 team is Aug. 14. Pitchers and catchers will work out from 5:30 p.m.-6 p.m., with all players working out from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. The same schedule will be used for the under-12 team Aug. 21. Players must bring their own cleats and glove. A parent must be present at the start of the tryout. Registration will be held 15 minutes prior to the start of the tryout. The 10th Annual Trinity Lutheran Golf Tournament will be played Sept. 7 at Cross Creek Golf Course

. All proceeds benefit the Dallas Food Bank. The entry fee is $70 per player or $250 for a foursome prepaid prior to Sept. 1. The entry fee includes green fee, prizes, barbecue dinner, team photo and range balls. The event has raised close to $33,000 in its nine years. Open gym has been set for incoming 7th and 8th graders interested in playing volleyball for LaCreole Middle School

Dallas Summer Tennis Camp for intermediate and advanced players will be held Thursdays through Aug. 14

. The camp will be at Dallas High School. Players will meet from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. The instructor is Dallas boys tennis coach Mary Christensen. The cost for any or all of the sessions is $35. The Dallas High School equestrian team is holding its 2008 Gaming Playday Series

at the Polk County Fairgrounds. The remaining events will be held Aug. 23 and Sept. 13. Registration will be from 7 a.m.-7:30 a.m., and gaming starts at 8 a.m. There are nine different events and seven age classes. Proceeds will benefit the Dallas High School equestrian team. Wildcat Hoop Camp will be offered in three sessions over the course of two weeks

. Girls entering grades 4-8 will meet from 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m. July 28-31 at Dallas High School. Boys entering grades 4-8 will meet from 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Aug. 4-7 at Dallas High School. Boys and girls entering grades K-3 will meet from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at Lyle Elementary. Sportsmanship and basketball fundamentals will be taught in a fun but applicable manner. Corban College in Salem is hosting a girls basketball coaches clinic Oct. 11 in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center

. The clinic will run from 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m. The cost is $90 for the first coach from a program and $75 for each additional coach.
