RICKREALL -- A low-risk field fire quickly became high risk Aug. 16 as it spread along wheat stubble with the wind.
First reported at 3:30 p.m. in the 10000 block of Highway 22, west of the 99W and Highway 22 interchange, the fire was moving slowly in a 100-foot-by-100-foot area.
Later reports from a caller said the fire was "blowing up" and beginning to spread more quickly. This report and the sight of a large column of black smoke elevated the fire to high risk.
Firefighters from the Rickreall Station and Dallas Station worked to put out the fire. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
The cause of the fire was a spark from a piece of farming machinery. The fire consumed between 3.5 and 4 acres.
