Independence Police Looking For Reserves

INDEPENDENCE -- The Independence Police Department is taking applications for reserve officers and cadet explorers.

INDEPENDENCE -- The Independence Police Department is taking applications for reserve officers and cadet explorers.

The department offers a four-step program that allows reserves to train with a full-time officer and the opportunity to work up to a solo or part-time position after completing training and assessment.

Applicants must be 21 years old by June 2009, live in the area, have a high school diploma or GED, and possess a valid driver's license.

Cadets must be from 16 to 20 years old.

Applications are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Independence Police Department, 240 Monmouth St. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5.

Candidates must take a physical fitness, oral and written test, and will go through a background investigation and psychological examination.

All reserves will have to complete Mid-Valley Reserve Training two nights each week and some Saturdays.
