TILLAMOOK COUNTY - A Dallas man is missing and presumed drowned after the boat he was in capsized near Pacific City on Saturday, a Tillamook County sheriff's spokesman said.
The incident ocurred at about 1:15 p.m. at the mouth of the Nestucca River.
Derek Scrabeck, 26, and Andrew Sparre, 32, both of Dallas were riding in an 11.5-foot Zodiac inflatable boat, according to the sheriff's office.
The two were on a spear fishing trip and were crossing the river bar into the ocean when they lost power. Their boat was caught in heavy surf and was knocked over by a wave.
Neither subjects were wearing life jackets. Sparre made it to shore, but Scrabeck is still missing.
Sparre was cited by the county marine patrol for unsafe boat operation due to hazardous conditions at the mouth of the bay.
