Arrests made in burglaries

MONMOUTH -- An Independence man was arrested June 3 and charged with burglary, identity theft and stealing a Subaru Legacy in two separate incidents last month in Monmouth.

Detective Mike Hamilton arrested 24-year-old Sean Thomas Kirk and charged him with burglary, identity theft and unlawful use and entry of a motor vehicle.

According to a report from the Monmouth Police Department, a woman believed someone had been in her home in the 200 block of East Clay Street on May 18 at about 8 a.m. and said her purse was missing.

The next day, police received a reported of a Subaru Legacy stolen from the 900 block of West Church Street. The vehicle was found later in Dallas at Bowersville and Ellendale roads.

Hamilton was able to identify suspects after stolen credit cards taken from the missing purse had been used in Salem. Detectives with the Polk Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team also helped identify suspects as they had spotted Kirk in the stolen Subaru.

Kirk was arrested at about 4 p.m. June 3 at the Marion County Correctional Facility, where he was being held on unrelated charges.

Police have interviewed other suspects, but no charges have been made. Monmouth Police and POINT are still investigating the incident.
