MONMOUTH/INDEPENDENCE - And the winners are ....
The Monmouth-Independence Chamber of Commerce will honor community and business leaders during its annual Community Awards Banquet, Thursday, March 20, at Western Oregon University's Pacific Room.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction.
Highlighting the list of recipients are the Moser Family, who will be presented the First Citizen Award, and Keith Aldrich, who will receive the Distinguished Service Award.
The chamber will present several business awards, including: Emese Perfecto of Running With Scissors, Entrepreneur of the Year; Independence Cinema 8, New Business of the Year; Marquis Spas, Large Business of the Year; and Windermere Real Estate, Small Business of the Year.
Teachers of the Year, selected by the Central Education Association, are Melini Altermatt and Adil Abounadi.
Students of the Year from Monmouth-Independence area schools are: Nataly Rodriguez, grade 4, Henry Hill Elementary School; Julissa Amador, grade 4, Independence Elementary School; Aaron Hobgood, grade 4, Monmouth Elementary School; Micaela Bowman, grade 4, Luckiamute Valley Charter Schools; Moana Tapasa, grade 6, Ash Creek Intermediate School; Tiffany Wagoner, grade 8, Pedee School; Nick Vera, grade 8, Talmadge Middle School; Carlota Trujillo, grade 8, Talmadge Middle School; Kenny Clark, senior, Central High School; Sharon Flaming, senior, Mid-Valley Christian Academy; Odilon Campos, senior, Western Oregon University.
Advance tickets for the banquet are $30 for adults and $15 for children. Any tickets that remain after noon on Thursday will be available at the door while supplies last at $35 for adults and $20 for children.
