DALLAS - The city of Dallas has hired a new Community Development Director to replace Jerry Wyatt, who is now the city's manager.

Jason Locke, 38, of Monmouth, began work this week managing the city's planning, building, maintenance and economic development departments, the aquatic center and parks and recreation programs.

Locke and his wife Jacqueline have two young children, Zane, 3, and Jocelyn, 4 months.

Locke was born on Long Island, New York, but has lived in Oregon since 1992. He said that after two years of college, he took to the road, eventually landing in southern Oregon.

In Ashland, he finished his degree in geology in 1997 at Southern Oregon University. He worked as a city planner in Jacksonville for three years, and was community director for Bandon for six years.

For the past two years, Locke has been the Willamette Valley regional staff representative for the state Department of Land Conservation and Development.
