Hill Top Cemetery Flag Display

-- The annual display of U.S. Flags will be flown in honor at Hill Top Cemetery during Memorial Day weekend, May 24-26. The cemetery is located off Corvallis Road, just south of Independence.

Grand Ronde Memorial Day Service

-- 8 a.m., Grand Ronde Cemetery, Grand Ronde Road, Grand Ronde. Hosted by VFW Post 4211, Northwest Indian Veterans Association, AMVETS Post 2000 and American Legion Post 75. Contact: Carl Lambert, 503-879-4222.

Independence Memorial Day Service

-- 9 a.m., Veterans Memorial, Independence Riverside Park, downtown Independence. Hosted by AMVETS Post 1776. Contact: Ruth Williams, 503-838-3477.

Dallas American Legion Post 20/VFW Post 3203 Avenue of Flags Ceremony

-- 11 a.m., Dallas Cemetery, Fairview Avenue. More than 490 full-sized American flags will be on display, each with the name of a deceased veteran of Polk County. Guest speaker: Col. Donald Bond of the Oregon Army national Guard. Contact: Al Ratzlaff, 503-623-2591.

Independence State Airport Pilot Memorial

-- 11 a.m., Independence State Airport. Honors Oregon pilots who died during the past year. Includes a flyover by Oregon Air National Guard F-15 Eagles and several displays. Lunch available at 11:30 a.m. for $5. 503-838-4231.

Brown's Iris Garden

-- 1 to 6 p.m., 1664 SW Clay St., Dallas. The public is welcome to tour the Brown's one-acre garden. Some areas are wheelchair accessible. Free. www.brownsbackyard.blogspot.com.

Memorial Day Ceremony

-- 3 p.m., Grand Ronde Veterans Memorial, 9615 Grand Ronde Road, Grand Ronde. Names of local war veterans will be added to the memorial. Guest speaker: Gov. Ted Kulongoski.
