Lady Dragons fall out of postseason race

The volleyball team drops a pair of matches.

DALLAS -- Dallas' volleyball team slipped out of the Mid-Willamette Conference playoff race last week with losses against Silverton and South Albany.

The Lady Dragons dropped a 25-17, 25-23, 25-23 match against the Lady Foxes Oct. 14 at home and fell 25-19, 25-14, 25-18 two days later at South Albany.

Dallas started the week sixth of eight teams in the league with a 4-8 record.

"The record for the season isn't what we had hoped for," first-year DHS coach Anne Crump said. "This is a very competitive league. Three of the teams currently are ranked in the top 10. We've had to overcome some adversity. Having a new coach and a new way of doing things is an adjustment. Plus, we had a chronic injury to our starting setter. We still have two games left, and we're working hard to prepare for those games and finish our season strong."

Sophie Stewart led Dallas with eight kills against both Silverton and South Albany.

Lexi Pola had three blocks against Silverton, and Ashley Tallon recorded 12 digs.

Tallon had 12 digs in the South Albany match, and Jasmine Havig finished with 15 assists and two blocks. Samantha Skinner had one service ace.

The Lady Dragons will close out the regular season Thursday, Oct. 23 at West Albany.
