POLK COUNTY -- Emergency officials responded to four unrelated accidents around Polk County on Thursday, Sept. 18, all of them occurring within 1 1/2 hours of each other.
Oregon State Police and Polk County deputies were first alerted to a "T-bone" crash at 2:32 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 22 and Highway 223.
Jessica Simoes, 27, of Dallas was at a stop sign in a white Oldsmobile sedan waiting to take a left onto Highway 22 when she pulled out into traffic in front of a blue Kia driven by Courtney Hunter, 26, of Tillamook and was hit.
OSP Trooper Peggy Bishop said the extent of Hunter's injuries were unknown and that a baby in the Kia was uninjured.
Simoes was injured and transported to Salem Hospital.
No citations were issued and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
At 3:29 p.m., officials responded to a head-on collision on Highway 51, approximately 3 miles south of the intersection with Highway 22.
Pastola Ramirez, 35, of Independence was traveling south in a Nissan Altima when she drifted into the northbound lane and crashed into a Ford F-450 utility truck driven by Jim Shobe, 35, of Dallas.
Ramirez was transported to Salem Hospital with serious injuries.
"We're not sure why she drove into the (oncoming) lane," OSP Trooper Charles Burdick said, adding that the incident is still being investigated.
Meanwhile, a Polk deputy en route to the Highway 51 incident happened upon another crash at 3:35 p.m. at the intersection of Riddell and Clow Corner roads, said Dean Bender, Polk County Sheriff's spokesman.
Merrliyn Loutzenhiser, 75, of Dallas was at the stop sign on Riddell Road in a Kia Sedona. She pulled out in front of a Dodge Neon, driven by Scott Lucas, 45, of Dallas, traveling on Clow Corner Road and was hit.
Loutzenhiser was transported to Salem Hospital with minor injuries. Scott was uninjured but his passenger, Laurie Lucas, 45, was taken to West Valley Hospital with minor injuries.
No citation was issued.
At 4:08 p.m., the sheriff's office was dispatched to an accident in the 9000 block of Rogers Road.
Richard Kozisek, 44, was riding a 1985 Suzuki motorcycle when he drifted onto the gravel shoulder, lost control, and went into a ditch.
He was thrown from his bike after hitting a tree. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis.
