CHS pageant to benefit hospital

INDEPENDENCE -- Central High School will host the Mr. And Miss Central Pageant, "Wild, Wild West," Saturday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Contestants have been fundraising throughout the year to support Shriners Hospitals for Children

. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students. Proceeds benefits Shriners Hospitals for Children. The event is sponsored by Central High's Associated Student Body Executive Council

Dallas sets kindergarten sign ups

DALLAS -- Dallas School District will hold kindergarten registration and parent orientation for the 2009-10 school year on Thursday, April 23.

The session, for parents only, begins at 5 p.m. at each of the district's three elementary schools. An open house for children will be held at a later date.

Children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2009, to be eligible for kindergarten. Parents must bring proof of birth date, the child's Social Security number, and record of immunizations with vaccination dates.

DHS seeking Site Council members

DALLAS -- Dallas High School has volunteer positions available for parent representation on the school's Site Council.

The Site Council is comprised of staff, students and parents who meet monthly with the primary purpose of school improvement.

Dallas High School parents interested in serving a two-year term should send a letter of interest by May 2009 to Dallas High School, c/o Site Council Chair, 1250 SE Holman Ave., Dallas, OR 97338.

Falls City FACES to host activity

FALLS CITY -- The Falls City School District's Family Academic Clubs and Enrichment for Success (FACES) program will host another of its family nights Thursday, April 16, at 5:30 p.m. at Falls City Elementary School.

Flamingo fundraiser returns to LaCreole

DALLAS -- Residents around town are waking up to lawns full of pink flamingos.

The bird prank is part of LaCreole Middle School's third annual fundraiser for the eighth-grade trip to Washington, D.C. It will continue throughout the month.

When the birds storm your front yard, a tax-deductible donation will see that the flock goes to another residence of your choosing.

Community members can also pay $20 for yard insurance to keep it from happening to them.

OCA offering college scholarships

The Oregon Cattlemen's Association is accepting applications for scholarships for the 2009-10 academic year from OCA members and members of their family.

Applicants must be at sophomore, junior, senior or graduate level and enrolled full time at a community college or university for the 2009-10 academic year. All majors apply; however, some relevance to the livestock industry must be demonstrated.

As many as five scholarships will be awarded totaling as much as $5,000. Applications are due by May 1.
