GRAND RONDE -- The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde will host one of Oregon's largest annual powwows Aug. 14-16, when the Contest Powwow returns to the Uyxat Powwow Grounds near Fort Yamhill State Park.
Powwow registration begins at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, with the first Grand Entry slated for 7 p.m. at the powwow grounds at 9390 Highway 22.
On Saturday, a parade with cash prizes will be held starting at 10 a.m. at Fort Yamhill State Park. The parade route winds down to the Uyxat Powwow Grounds. Grand Entry on Aug. 15 is slated for 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., with dancer registration deadline set for 2 p.m. Saturday.
On Sunday, Aug. 16, Grand Entry will occur at 1 p.m.
For attendees staying at Spirit Mountain Casino, a shuttle will be available to ferry people back and forth to the powwow grounds.
In addition to the powwow dancing and drumming, there will be numerous food and Native American craft vendors in attendance.
The public is welcome to attend. Admission to the event is free. Parking costs $1 per vehicle or a canned food donation.
