School supply donations needed for students

POLK COUNTY -- Several area groups and businesses are collecting school supplies for students entering grades K-12 for the upcoming 2009-10 school year.



POLK COUNTY -- Several area groups and businesses are collecting school supplies for students entering grades K-12 for the upcoming 2009-10 school year.

Items sought include backpacks, notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, rulers, crayons and other supplies typically used by students in grades K-12.

* Jefferson Manor is accepting donations of school supplies through the end of August for its "Back to School Backpack Collection" for Dallas-area students. Donations may be brought to Jefferson Manor, 664 SE Jefferson St., Dallas, from 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information: Joy, 503-623-8104.

* The Monmouth and Dallas branches of Oregon First Community Credit Union are holding a school supply drive for the Central and Dallas school districts through Wednesday, Sept. 2. Supply lists are available at each branch, 1310 E. Main St., Monmouth; 372 E. Ellendale Ave., Dallas. For more information: 503-838-2641 (Monmouth); 503-831-3331 (Dallas).

* The Monmouth branch of MaPS Credit Union is collecting supplies for elementary schools in Monmouth and Independence. A supply list is available at www.central.k12.or.us/. Donations may be dropped off at 163 N. Knox St. For more information: Jeremy Deglow, 503-838-2224.

* Mid-Valley Community Action Agency and Dallas Resource Center are collecting schools supplies for distribution to local families. Backpacks in particular are needed this year. Items can be dropped off at 326 Main St. in Dallas. For more information: 503-623-0264.
