POLK COUNTY -- The Polk County Jail has a new commander.
Effective Dec. 1, Polk County Sheriff Bob Wolfe promoted Sgt. Barb Shipley to lieutenant and jail commander.
Shipley was hired in March 1999 as a sergeant. Before working in Polk County, she served in the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office and has more than 17 years of experience in the corrections field.
Deputy Laura Westfall was promoted to Shipley's former position as a sergeant effective Dec. 7. Westfall has been with Polk County for more than 11 years, working in the jail. She also served with the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office and Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
"I'm very proud of the accomplishments of both Lt. Shipley and Sgt. Westfall," Wolfe said in a statement announcing the promotions. "They will both contribute to the overall operations of the Sheriff's Office."
Shipley replaces Lt. Keith Bowdle, who served as the jail commander since October 1997. He retired on Nov. 30.
