POLK COUNTY -- An annual public awareness meeting regarding the use of deadly physical force by law enforcement officials will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at the Polk County Courthouse.
The presentation starts at 6:30 p.m. in the main conference room and is hosted by the Polk County Sheriff's Office and District Attorney's Office as a requirement of Senate Bill 111.
Passed in 2007, the law requires sheriff's offices and police departments to develop training plans on the use of deadly force during responses to emergency calls, steps to follow in the aftermath, and public education.
During the meeting, attendees will also have the opportunity to see a demonstration of an interactive computer simulator that mimics shoot -- or don't shoot -- experiences a police officer may encounter on the job.
