Dallas robotics

team gets award

Four students affiliated with the Dallas-based Polk County 4-H Homeschool Club recently earned an award at the Intel Oregon First LEGO League 2008 Championship Tournament.

"Three Dudes and a Chick," consisting of Ocean Hedlund, Joe Collinsworth, Kendall Brittan and Luke Miller, received second prize in the Day 2 "Project Award," based on their work on their climate-related research and a presentation to judges.

The two-day competition is a pre-engineering program to help young students ages 9-14 begin exploring technical careers at an early age. Teams earn awards for robot design, performance, research and teamwork.

Lori Hedlund is the coach of the team that competed Jan. 17-18 at Liberty High School in Hillsboro.
