Sports physical clinic scheduled

DALLAS -- Athletes needing a sports physical for the upcoming school year can satisfy those requirements during a sports physical clinic Saturday, Aug. 1, at Oregon Family Health, 201 SE Washington St., Dallas.

All athletes entering grades 7, 9 and 11, as well as those without a current physical exam within the past year, are required to have an exam before participating in team practices.

The Aug. 1 clinic, offered by local doctors and physical therapists, runs from 8 a.m. to noon. Cost is $25, with all proceeds benefiting the Dallas Booster Club.

KVCS plans summer work party

KINGS VALLEY -- Kings Valley Charter School will conduct its annual summer work party on Saturday, July 25, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

The event is part of the Oregon Sesquicentennial day-of-service celebration. The school is located at 38840 Kings Valley Highway in Kings Valley.

High schoolers studying theater

DALLAS -- Two Dallas High School students are participating in the 2009 Summer Seminar for High School Juniors program through the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland.

Callie Instenes and Jonathan Rhoton, both residents of Dallas, are two of the 65 students from 10 states set to take part in the program Aug. 3-15.

The two-week event is for theater students who will gain insight into the workings of a successful repertory theater company. Participants attend forums and workshops on topics including theater administration, stage management, costume construction, scenic painting, properties, sound and theatrical lighting, as well as Renaissance dance, stage combat, marketing and publicity, fundraising, auditioning techniques and movement and voice for stage.

Students also will attend nine Oregon Shakespeare Festival productions and work together on projects.
