DALLAS -- The Dallas Inter-Community Activity Network is hosting an evening full of dancing, dessert and art to celebrate its one-year anniversary Saturday, June 6.
"I think we have had a really successful year," said Michele Campione, Dallas ICAN's executive director. "It's a pretty inexpensive night out and will benefit our scholarship fund."
Admission, which costs $10 in advance and $12 at the door, will allow you access to a 30-minute ballroom dance lesson, two hours of open dance, performances by a belly dancing troop and local band, and dessert.
The event will be held at The Majestic, 976 Main St. in downtown Dallas, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Art donated by local artists will be available for purchase in a silent auction while guests indulge in cakes, pies and assorted beverages.
Campione said the attire is by no means formal, but dancing in swirly skirts always makes a fun evening.
Winners of the annual ICAN Create Youth Art Contest will also be announced that evening.
Proceeds from the event go toward ICAN's scholarship fund to provide after-school activities for local children.
Campione said in the next year she would like to add science activities and possibly help the Dallas Community Choir program that may be eliminated because of budget cuts in the school district.
"We need to raise money for scholarships so kids can have a fun place to come after school and do something meaningful," Campione said.
Tickets can be purchased before the event by calling 503-623-5055 or at the door.
