Robert H. Moorman Jr., 91, of Dallas died June 19.

He was born in Newton, Mass., to Robert and Essie Fellstrom Moorman.

Bob's father was a Baptist minister serving in several Western states. Bob grew up singing in school, church and college choirs. He also enjoyed fly-fishing and tennis.

He graduated from Billings High School in Montana and attended Eastern Montana Normal School for one year before transferring to Linfield College in McMinnville for two years.

Bob enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the onset of World War II, but before being sworn in was drafted by the Army Air Corps. After nearly four years of service, which included deployment to the European Theater, he received an honorable discharge and returned to graduate from Linfield with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology. He also attended George Williams College in Chicago for postgraduate studies.

Bob married Gladys Swift on Sept. 12, 1947, in Terrebonne.

He worked as a civil servant for McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif., until his retirement in 1983.

Bob was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Citrus Heights, Calif., for 42 years before returning to Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carole Hicks.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys of Dallas; son, John Moorman of Livermore, Calif.; daughters, Barbara Meyers (Mark) of Corvallis and Tamara Moorman (Paul Baybutt) of Columbus, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Memorial service was June 23 at Dallas First Presbyterian Church and private interment was in Dallas Cemetery.

Sharon D. Quiring

April 4, 1942 - June 19, 2009


Sharon D. Quiring, 67, a lifelong Dallas resident, died June 19 in Dallas.

She was born in Dallas to Sam and Elizabeth Neufeld Reimer.

Sharon graduated from Salem Academy in 1960 and went on to attend Seattle Pacific, Oregon State and Merritt Davis colleges.

She married John Quiring in Dallas on Nov. 29, 1969.

She worked for State Farm Insurance Co. until children came along, then she stayed home to be a full-time mom.

Sharon was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family deeply and always put them first. Sharon loved to entertain and was savvy to the importance of the elements of etiquette. She loved to shop, cook and spoil her kids and grandchildren. She had unconditional love for all people.

She loved to relax with a great sporting event on TV and knew many of the player's by name.

Sharon loved the Lord and was a member of the former Mennonite Brethren Church. She loved music and sang in the choir in her younger years.

Survivors include her husband, John of Dallas; daughter, Rashelle Earhart of Dallas; son, Brian of Salem; and seven grandchildren.

Viewing is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. Celebration of life will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 25, in the Dallas Four Square Church, the former Mennonite Brethren Church. Private graveside service will be held in Dallas Cemetery prior to the celebration at the church.

Archie Lee Smith

Archie Lee Smith, 91, of Independence, formerly of Sun City, Calif., died June 19.

He was born in Columbia City, Ind., to Harley and Christina Smith.

He married Geraldine K. Smith on April 16, 1947. She preceded him in death on Oct. 4, 2006.

Archie retired from the Long Beach Naval Shipyard as a planner/estimator in 1974. He was a sergeant in the Army, serving in the Pacific during World War II.

Survivors include his daughters, Janice (Robert) Crowson of Independence and Marilyn S. Smith of Riverside, Calif.; sister, Ann Roberts of Liberty, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

Celebration of life was held June 21 in Independence and a family memorial service will be held at a later date at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.
