MONMOUTH -- Western Oregon's softball team split a double-header Feb. 28 at Northwest Nazarene, winning game one 14-8 before dropping game two 6-5.
The split allowed Western to win the series 3-1 while improving to 5-3 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
Western's Jessica Hallmark set a school record with eight RBIs in game one. She finished with three hits, including a pair of home runs, and was named the GNAC's player of the week.
In game two, Western pitcher and Dallas High School graduate Stephanie Albrecht suffered her second loss of the season on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Albrecht pitched her first complete game of the season, allowing nine hits and three walks while fanning one. Four of Northwest's runs were unearned.
Western lost 7-1 to Central Washington March 1 in the final game of the Central Washington Invitational.
The Wolves (6-6 overall) scored their only run in the sixth when Justin Speer singled and eventually came home on a sacrifice fly by Trevor Coursey.
Western lost 70-39 Feb. 28 at home against Seattle Pacific, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA West Region.
The loss dropped the Wolves to 8-17 on the season and 3-11 in the GNAC.
Western's Katie Torland led all scorers with 18 points. She went seven of 19 from the field and also grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Whitney Chase added 11 points for WOU.
