MONMOUTH/INDEPENDENCE -- The annual Monmouth and Independence Cleanup Day will take place Saturday, May 16.
Residents are asked to do their part by beautifying their own properties, the downtown, roads, or helping with park and riverbank restoration.
Individuals or groups who have projects or who wish to volunteer for a cleanup effort in either of the two cities can contact Jeanne Flora at 503-606-4906. They can also register online by visiting www.solv.org/volunteers and by clicking on the "project by county" link.
Free lunch will be provided by local businesses.
The cleanup event will coincide with SOLV's "Down by the Riverside" initiative.
Citizens may bring their trash, including wood and metal debris and tires, to Riverview Park in Independence.
Pick up will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $10 for Monmouth and Independence residents and $12 for those from outside the cities.
No paint, chemicals, cement or household garbage will be accepted.
Elderly and disabled citizens requiring assistance with transportation of debris are asked to contact the city of Independence by May 15 to schedule a pick up.
Johnny's Auto Wreckers has also agreed to remove abandoned and junked vehicles. Call 503-838-0060 to make arrangements.
