STAYTON -- A 19-year-old Dallas woman was killed and a Dallas man was injured in a car crash east of Stayton May 23.

Ashley O'Sullivan, the 2008 Central Valley Conference girls golf district titlist, and passenger Michael Perkins, 20, were traveling southwest on North Forks Road in rural Marion County around 5:20 a.m. According to a release from the Marion County Sheriff's Office, O'Sullivan apparently lost control of the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt she was driving and it fell 80 feet into the North Santiam River.

Marion County Sheriff's Office deputies and firefighters from Stayton Fire District, Santiam and Lyons ambulance personnel, and the Jefferson Fire District Water Rescue Team arrived at the scene at 5:20 a.m.

O'Sullivan appeared to not have been wearing a seat belt and was found dead at the scene. Perkins was wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries.

Vehicle speed may have been a factor in the crash, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

O'Sullivan played golf for West Salem High School. She finished in a tie for seventh in the 2007 state tournament as a junior and finished in 10th place in 2008 as a senior.
