MONMOUTH/INDEPENDENCE -- Central High athletic boosters grossed more than $40,000 during the annual Panther Club Auction on Oct. 10.

"The community was very generous with their bidding and donations," said auction co-chairwoman Patty Nevue.

The event pulled in almost $10,000 more than it did during the previous year, when the economic downturn had a major effect, Nevue said

After event expenses, that money will go toward keeping all high school athletic programs afloat during the 2010-11 season. Nevue said a major goal is continuing junior varsity sports teams for younger students.

The Panther Club raises money for Central High sports year-round. For more information or to donate: Patty Nevue, 503-838-6687; PO Box 84, Independence, OR 97351.
