MONMOUTH -- The Luckiamute Watershed Council will host its annual barbecue and fundraising event Saturday, Sept. 19, beginning at noon at Sarah Helmick State Park.
This year, in addition to the barbecue, the council is sponsoring a bike ride, beginning with registration at 8 a.m. at the park. Riders can loop from 20 to 40 miles through the Luckiamute River countryside. The loops begin and end at the park.
For those who would rather kick back and relax, "Homegrown," a local old-time roots music band, will entertain beneath the trees at the park. Free hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and fresh vegetables are on the menu. Visitors are welcome to bring side dishes.
An auction of donated items will be conducted during the event, and awards will be given to those who have been friends to the Luckiamute Watershed Council.
Registration for the bike ride begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m. at the park. A light breakfast will be available for riders including coffee, hot chocolate, fruit, and bagels. Riders will be provided with maps and information about the route.
Cost is $20. All bike registration fees are tax-deductible and help support the Luckiamute Watershed Council's work to improve the watershed.
