MONMOUTH -- Two new restaurants will open in the Monmouth Improvement Company building in downtown this fall.
A Subway sandwich shop will locate at 113 E. Main St. Bodie Bemrose, who owns the two-story historic building, said company representatives had inquired about the spot this April.
The previous tenant, Think-it Screen Printing, moved from there to Highway 99W at about that time.
"Subway was looking for a downtown location that was within walking distance (of Western Oregon University)," Bemrose said.
The space is being renovated and should open by the end of October, Bemrose said. The owner of the franchise, Michael Kerns, also owns the Subway restaurant in Independence.
Bemrose said he's also in negotiations to open a Thai restaurant in the address once occupied by Stineff Insurance at the corner of Main and Warren streets.
The potential owners are local and would offer sit-down and take-out dining, Bemrose said.
"It looks promising that we'll be moving forward with them," he said, noting that business could be up and running by mid-November.
