INDEPENDENCE -- The city of Independence has hired Ross Schultz of Sherwood as its interim city manager.
Schultz had previously been interim finance director for Newport.
Schultz will start in his role this week and will work for Independence until a permanent replacement can be found for departing City Manager Greg Ellis.
Ellis accepted a job as city manager of Canby and will end his 10-year career here this week.
Mayor John McArdle said the city has recently advertised the city manager job and plans to conduct a search through the League of Oregon Cities. The hope is to select a candidate "by some time this summer," McArdle said.
The Independence City Council voted to offer Schultz the interim position on April 2. Schultz has been working at Newport since last summer. He was previously Sherwood's city manager from 2001-08 and was interim city manager of Dayton between 2008 and 2009.
