MONMOUTH -- Western Oregon University will host its third annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration from Jan. 19-22.
Presentations and panel discussions that are free and open to the public happen at noon on Jan. 19 and Jan. 20 inside the Werner University Center, as will an interfaith service at 4 p.m. on Jan. 21.
A dinner in the Pacific Room of the Werner Center featuring performer and spoken word poet Bridget Gray takes place at 6 p.m. on Jan. 21. Tickets are $9 for general admission if purchased in advance, $5 for students and $10 at the door.
A dance with a live DJ happens in the Pacific Room from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Jan. 22. Tickets are $1 for WOU students and $2 for general admission at the door.
WOU will also be collecting shoes for donation to local charities in connection with the celebration. New or gently used shoes can be dropped off at locations throughout the Werner Center.
